GIF to WebP

Convert static GIF images to much smaller WebP (first frame)

Privacy: this tool runs entirely in your browser — files are never uploaded, and data is gone when you close the page.

How to use

  1. Select or drop GIF images; add many at once.
  2. Adjust output quality (85 by default).
  3. Click "Convert all & download" to save the WebP files.

FAQ

Will animated GIFs stay animated?

No. This tool extracts the first frame and outputs a static WebP; motion is not preserved.

Why do colors look identical after converting?

WebP supports true color, so the 256-color GIF limit causes no further quality loss.

Is GIF transparency preserved?

Transparent areas are kept; minor fringe differences from palette recovery are rarely visible.

About this GIF to WebP

GIF uses a 256-color palette and aging LZW compression, making it far heavier than WebP at equal quality. This tool converts GIFs to static WebP: for single-frame GIFs (stickers, icons) the result is usually 50%+ smaller. Note: the browser Canvas cannot split animation frames, so animated GIFs are converted using their first frame; use a dedicated animation tool to keep motion.
