FAQ
Is the China standard the same as international?
No — China uses stricter cutoffs: normal up to 23.9 and obese from 28, versus 25 / 30 internationally, better matching Asian health risk.
Is a normal BMI always healthy?
Not necessarily. BMI does not distinguish fat from muscle, so fit people may read high; consider waistline and body-fat percentage too.
How is BMI calculated?
BMI = weight(kg) / height(m)². For example 1.7 m and 65 kg gives BMI ≈ 22.5, which is in the normal range.
At 170 cm, what weight is healthy?
Under the China standard, 1.70 m corresponds to a healthy weight of about 53.5–72.3 kg (BMI 18.5–23.9).
Can pregnant or under-18 people use BMI?
No. Pregnancy includes fetal weight and minors have growth charts; the standard BMI will misclassify them — use a doctor or child-specific standard.
High BMI but I don't look fat?
It may be high muscle mass (e.g. athletes) or visceral fat with a normal-looking build — in the latter case watch your waistline.
