FAQ
Which is better, AVIF or WebP?
AVIF compresses better and supports 10-bit color; WebP has mature compatibility and faster encoding. Choose AVIF for new devices, WebP for maximum reach.
Why does it say the file cannot be read?
AVIF decoding depends on the browser: Chrome 85+ and Firefox 93+ support it. Very old browsers cannot decode AVIF — try a current Chrome or Edge.
Is there double quality loss?
The AVIF is decoded to raw pixels then re-encoded as WebP; at quality 90+ the second loss is practically invisible.
About this AVIF to WebP
AVIF is the newest image codec with excellent compression, but the ecosystem is still catching up: older phones, early Windows 10 builds, office suites and many image viewers cannot display it. When your audience's devices are unknown, converting AVIF to WebP is the safe play — slightly less compression, but browser support above 97%. Decoding and encoding both happen locally in your browser, with batch support.
